Red Velvet Cupcakes recipe

Red velvet cupcakes are always one of the most popular flavors at a bakery. Whether it is the deep permeating flavor of chocolate or the bright red color peeking through the paper cup, it flies of the shelf and into the mouths of happy customers.

Ingredients:

  • 3 1/2 cups cake flour
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs, at room temperature
  • 6 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cider vinegar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • Vanilla Frosting, as needed
  • sprinkles, as needed, optional

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. Line 2 dozen cupcake cups with paper liners.

  2. Sift the flour into a small bowl and set aside.

  3. In another large bowl cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly.

  4. Add the cocoa powder, red food coloring, and salt.

  5. Add the flour and buttermilk alternatively until everything is combined.

  6. Add the vinegar and baking soda. Stir to combine.

  7. Scrape down the sides of the bowl and make sure everything has been incorporated.

  8. Divide the batter among the cupcake pans and bake 20 minutes or until a tester comes out clean.

  9. Let cool completely and frost with vanilla icing. Decorate with sprinkles if desired.
